archive - a year ago today

It is a pretty chill day, so while sitting at the computer, I started to think about what I was shooting a year ago. A year ago today, I uploaded the photo above of musician Evan Phillips to Flickr. It's amazing how fast a year goes by; it felt like I just took the photo yesterday.

Today, Ashley and I had the pleasure of photographing and interviewing independent musician Tim Easton. Tim is on tour passing through Anchorage as he works his way down to Bellingham, WA.
I was introduced to Tim a year ago though my good friend, Evan Phillips. Along with Leroy Stagger, Easton and Phillips form a trio band named Easton Stagger Phillips, and their album, ESP, is among my favorites.
Tim played a show on Friday and Saturday at the Taproot Cafe in Anchorage. During Friday's show, a calming feeling came over me as I realized that summer is on its way. Shows equal summer, and I look forward to many of them.

marian call - 49>50

Last night, Marian Call played her last show in Anchorage at the Snow Goose Theater before she kicks off her 49>50 tour. Marian plans to hit all 50 states over the next seven months beginning with last night's show in Anchorage, AK.

On April 4th, Ashley and I flew into Kona, Hawaii to spend the week with soon-to-be-wed Matt Hage and Agnes Stowe. Matt and Agnes are freelance photographers in Anchorage, AK. I have always loved their work and was honored when they asked me to photograph their wedding.

shishmaref in anchorage - two

Today, Ashley and I wrapped up our interviews in Anchorage for the Shishmaref project. The last elder with whom we spoke was Lorena A Seetomona. Lorena moved to Anchorage in 1962 with her husband. She had many recipes for us to write down and shared some of her smoked muk tuk from Barrow with us during our visit.
The people we have met during this project have been so kind and supportive of Ashley and I, so I am sad that the portrait section of our book is done. But I have to keep in mind we will be back to Shishmaref soon enough!
